You are reading this because something is burning, or has burned, or is about to.
You may not call it fire. You may call it the loss, or the ending, or the thing that happened, or the year everything came apart. You may have no word for it at all — only a heaviness you carry from room to room, a weather that will not lift.
I am going to call it the fire.
Not to make it grand. To give it a name old enough to hold it.
